Glass is not collected because broken glass can contaminate other recyclables, damage processing equipment, and pose a danger to sorting crews.
Recyclables are collected in a 90-gallon covered, wheeled, waterproof cart that conveniently holds all recyclables except glass. Download collection calendar (PDF), or fill out the Residential Request and Change Form (PDF) to sign up for service.
There is no additional charge to recycle. Service is provided by the City of Port Angeles and collections are every other week. Residential recycling collection is offered to all city single-family dwellings up to four-plexes at no additional charge. Recyclables are re-processed and used in the production of new products. Instead, the materials are transported to Tacoma or Seattle, sorted, and shipped to markets in this country and world-wide. Materials that are recycled do not have to be hauled to a landfill and buried forever. Recycling is an important part of the city's Waste Reduction Program.
